Considered a complete, healthy and wholesome staple meal in Maharashtra, MisalPav is a spicy dish mainly consisting of mixed sprouts, a variety of spices and farsan (potato chiwda). This mix is relished with pav for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner! Not only is it regularly prepared in homekitchens; the dish is easily available as street food across the state.


  • Washed matki sprouts 1 cup
  • Washed moong sprouts 1 cup
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds ½ tsp
  • A few curry leaves
  • Finely chopped onions 2 large-sized
  • Slit green chillies 2
  • Garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Ginger paste 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  • Red chilli powder 2 tsp
  • Coriander (dhania) powder ½ tsp
  • Cumin (jeera) powder ½ tsp
  • Garam masala powder 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves 2 tbsp
  • Farsan (potato chiwda) ½ cup
  • Lemon juice as required
  • Pav 8 (to serve with)


  • Heat the oil in a wok and add the mustard seeds, curry leaves and only half of the onions and sauté for about one minute.
  • Add the green chillies, ginger and garlic pastes and stir, adding a little water.
  • Next, mix in the turmeric, red chilli, coriander and cumin powders. Stir well and add the washed sprouts.
  • Add a couple of cups of water (depending on the consistency you want) and salt. Allow the mixture to boil and add in the garam masala powder and some of the chopped coriander leaves (leave some for garnishing). Cover the wok and cook the dish for 10 minutes over a low flame.
